The Process
This Viraufaux Turquoise was created with custom blends of blue and green hues. Each color is mixed and conditioned. Acrylic paint is then added to the polymer clay and compressed into a cane. To create the slab from which the earring shapes are cut out from, we slice up the cane, and organize our sliced pieces into one large slab.
The
gold hammered piece starts off as a flattened slab, it is then conditioned and undergoes the mica powder process. This process is responsible for giving each piece its special ultra pearlescent shine. Indentation phase follows to produce the ubiquitous dents all around. Each dent is "hammered" on with a ball stylus to create the whimsical hammered texture.
The barro color used on these pieces is a blend of four colors - brown, red, orange and pink. The clay is con·tin·u·ous·ly kneaded and put through my Lucy Clay pasta machine until the perfect color is achieved. A sheet of sandpaper is placed over the slab and gently pressed on with a roller pin to achieve the grainy overlay texture.
